Recovery
Recovery varies widely with the procedure, from a few days to a couple of weeks in hospital for major resections. A dedicated follow-up plan covers diet, enzymes and diabetes care where relevant.
Frequently asked questions
When does pancreatitis need surgery?
Most acute pancreatitis settles with medical care. Surgery or endoscopic drainage is considered for infected collections, gallstone pancreatitis (to remove the gallbladder) and some cases of painful chronic pancreatitis.
Are all liver cysts dangerous?
No. Simple liver cysts are common and usually harmless. Hydatid cysts, complex cysts and growing lesions need specialist evaluation.
